Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about Iyengar Yoga and Sosha Yoga's classes, private sessions, and studio.

Classes & Pricing

What types of yoga classes does Sosha Yoga offer?
Sosha Yoga offers private, semi-private, group, and therapeutic Iyengar Yoga sessions in La Verne, Claremont, San Dimas, Glendora, and the broader San Gabriel Valley. Therapy sessions are tailored for sciatica, scoliosis, back pain, and other specific conditions.
Do I need to be experienced to take an Iyengar Yoga class?
No. All levels are welcome. Iyengar Yoga uses props (blocks, blankets, belts, walls) so the practice meets every body where it is. New students typically start with a private or semi-private session so the teacher can introduce alignment fundamentals safely.
Can Iyengar Yoga help with back pain or other injuries?
Yes — therapeutic Iyengar Yoga is one of Sosha Yoga's specializations. Sonia Shaeri designs therapy sequences for back pain, sciatica, scoliosis, and other musculoskeletal concerns. Please contact the studio in advance to discuss your specific needs so the session can be tailored appropriately.
How do I book a class or private session?
Use the Contact page to book a private or semi-private session. Group classes are listed on the Classes page with their schedule and pricing.

Iyengar Yoga Method

What is Iyengar Yoga?
Iyengar Yoga is an alignment-focused method of hatha yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar (1918-2014). The method emphasizes precision, sequencing, and the use of props (blocks, blankets, belts, chairs, walls) so each pose can be practiced safely and accurately by students of all bodies and ability levels.
Why does Iyengar Yoga use props?
Props allow students to access correct alignment without the strain of forcing range of motion they don't yet have. A block under the hand in Triangle, a wall behind the back in headstand prep, a folded blanket under the hips in seated forward folds — each prop scales the pose to the practitioner so the underlying intelligence of the asana is preserved.
Who is Iyengar Yoga for?
Iyengar Yoga is suitable for beginners, advanced practitioners, students recovering from injury, and people with chronic conditions. The combination of detailed instruction and prop-based modification makes it one of the most accessible yoga methods.
How is Iyengar Yoga different from Vinyasa or Hatha?
Iyengar emphasizes holding poses for extended periods with precise alignment, rather than the breath-linked flow of Vinyasa. Where Hatha is a broad umbrella, Iyengar is a specific, codified approach within hatha yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar — characterized by props, sequencing, and detailed instruction.
