What to Expect at Your First Class at Sosha Yoga in La Verne
First, expect to be welcomed into a friendly, inviting, small neighborhood studio.
The first person you meet will likely be Wendy—bubbly and welcoming. She’ll show you around and help you set up. Then you’ll meet Sonia, the owner and main teacher. Not bubbly, but certainly friendly. Expect your fellow students to introduce themselves, too.
Arrive 10–15 minutes early so you have time to settle in. Bring a sticky yoga mat that isn’t too thick, and wear comfortable clothes—shorts and a T-shirt work well. If you’re a beginner, start with our Intro to Yoga classes or Level 1 Ignite.
Then expect a class that is simply different from most other local yoga classes, because you have arrived at an Iyengar Yoga studio.
We begin seated, chanting OM followed by an invocation to Patanjali, offering gratitude to the practice of yoga. If this is new to you, you are welcome to simply listen.
Expect the teaching to be methodical and detailed. We use props like blocks, belts, blankets, bolsters, and chairs to support the body and help you find a deeper experience of each pose. You’ll receive clear instructions, time to work with them, and guidance along the way.
The work may be physically challenging, but the pace is measured and deliberate. After an intense pose, there is room to breathe and reset. There is time to notice what you feel.
As the class unfolds, you’ll be guided into a meditative practice, bringing your attention to the body, the breath, and the work at hand. We finish with a blissful guided relaxation—a chance to rest deeply and let the practice settle.
You may leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, clearheaded, and joyous.
We look forward to welcoming you. See our schedule below:
